Historic Tuckahoe is the childhood home of Thomas Jefferson. The original 1733 Manor Home and outbuildings still stand, along with the original brick kitchen. It was in this space where Mary Randolph perfected her recipes, which were printed in 1824. Her collection of Virginia foodways was the first regional cookbook ever printed in the United States and considered one of the most influential books printed
in 19th century America.
